History Of Agincourt, Toronto
Agincourt started off as a village, with the point being the Knox Presbyterian Church. The original wooden Knox Church, constructed in 1846 was later replaced in 1872 by the brick church that still stands at the intersection of Sheppard and Midland Avenues.
In 1858 the “Agincourt” post office was established within the John Hills store. Hill, with assistance from a Quebec Member of Parliament, secured the post office. Insisted on giving it a name. Despite his Scottish clientele Hill chose to name it “Agincourt” after the French town where King Henry V achieved victory in his famous battle in 1415.
The late 1800s brought prosperity to Agincourt when two railway lines established stations here. This spurred the development of the Agincourt community in 1913 on land formerly owned by the Paterson family north of Sheppard Avenue between Midland Avenue and the railway tracks. The major growth phase for Agincourt occurred between 1945 and 1965 when much of today’s neighbourhood was developed.

Agincourt boasts a variety of shopping centres and malls, along Sheppard Avenue and on McCowan Road north of Finch Avenue. The Agincourt Gardening Club holds meetings at the Christian Centre of Knox United Church on 2575 Midland Avenue. Recently this gardening club unveiled a plaque at Donalda Park on Donalda Drive to honor three varieties of lilacs developed in Agincourt. Situated north of Finch Avenue Brimley Woods Park is famous for its showcase of trillium flowers that bloom in early May. The park boasts a short wood chip nature trail beneath towering maple trees where hikers are serenaded by a chorus of bird songs.
Woodside Square shopping centre at Finch Avenue and McCowan Road houses a library that organizes year round programs for both adults and children.
Agincourt North offers an array of parks and recreational facilities with playgrounds for kids, sports parks and skating rinks. There are eight parks in Agincourt North with a total of 40 facilities averaging five facilities per park.
Agincourt, Toronto Transit
Agincourt boasts its Go Transit station situated on the northern side of Sheppard Avenue just a little past Kennedy Road. This station conveniently offers morning train services for commuters heading to Union Station, in downtown Toronto. In the afternoon the same train makes its return journey back to Agincourt from Union Station.
Passengers can easily access the Yonge University Spadina subway line via Toronto Transit bus routes along Finch and Sheppard Avenues. Additionally bus services running on Kennedy, Brimley, McCowan, Bellamy and Markham Roads as Midland Avenue connect passengers to various stations on the Bloor Danforth subway line.
