History of Ballantrae Whitchurch
It is believed that many of the settlers, in Ballantrae had roots as the community was named after Ballintra in County Donegal, Ireland. These settlers would have encountered a forest that caught the attention of the lumber industry in the late 1800s. By the 1900s most of these forests were cleared out leading to an era of conservation and resulting in the expansive conservation lands surrounding Ballantrae today.
By the 1900s Ballantrae had grown enough to support a school. Unfortunately this school burned down in 1971. Was replaced by the Ballantrae Public School in 1973. The original bell from that school was. Now holds a prominent spot in front of todays school building. In years Ballantrae has experienced growth, with new lifestyle communities emerging.
