History of Bayview Northeast
The Bayview Northeast neighbourhood was a forest when the early settlers arrived here in the 1800s. Many of these settlers were Quaker families who made the journey northward, from Pennsylvania. These pioneers first cleared their land. Established their homes. Some of the settlers utilized their position on the East Holland River watershed to construct saw and grist mills.
These lands were officially surveyed as Concession 2 east of Yonge Street. This particular area of Aurora was originally part of the Township of Whitchurch until 1971 when the Regional Municipality of York came into existence. During that time these lands were transferred to become part of the Town of Aurora.
The transformation from a rural to an environment, for Bayview Northeast began in 1996 when Aurora town planners developed the Bayview Northeast plan in anticipation of significant population growth projected for Aurora in upcoming years.
Lifestyle
The shopping area, on Bayview Avenue is mainly on the side of the road stretching from Wellington Avenue to St. Johns Sideroad. There are shopping centres and stores in this cluster starting from the south, with Aurora Gateway Centre, Home Depot, Aurora Centre, Borealis, Reebok Centre, Bayview North Centre, Pederson Village, LCBO and Beer Store and ending with Loblaws Superstore.

Bayview Northeast
In years Bayview Northeast has experienced an increase, in construction activities as new roads and infrastructure have been developed to support the growing number of homes being built in this neighbourhood.
Most of the houses are concentrated near Bayview Avenue on streets featuring rows of detached homes, townhomes and even some new low rise condominiums. Moving towards Leslie Street you’ll come across the East Aurora Wetland Complex, a designated area. Within this complex lies the established Aurora Wildlife Park. The East Aurora Wetland Complex holds a Provincial Significant Wetland status granted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests.
