History of Bayview Southeast
Bayview Southeast used to be a part of the Township of Whitchurch. In the 1700s and early 1800s Quakers were, among the settlers who came here. They were given 200 acres of land in exchange for clearing the forest building roads and establishing their homes and farms.
When the Regional Municipality of York was established in 1970 Bayview Southeast became part of the Town of Aurora after being transferred from the Township of Whitchurch. At that time it was farmland and conservation area.
In 1996 anticipating a growth, in population the Town of Aurora initiated an Urban Growth Management Study. As a result of this study the Bayview Southeast Secondary Plan was created in 1997. This plan serves as a set of principles to guide the development of the Bayview Southeast neighbourhood.
Lifestyle
Residents living in the Bayview Southeast area have access, to shopping destinations. One of these is the Aurora Centre, which is situated at 15540 Bayview Avenue. This centre offers a range of stores and services with notable anchor tenants such as Canadian Tire, Sobey’s Cineplex, GoodLife Fitness, Petsmart and Cineplex Odeon Theatre.
Moreover there are also open air shopping plazas along Bayview Avenue including Pederson Village and Bayview Square. These plazas house a variety of known chain stores and franchise restaurants in addition, to professional services.
Bayview Southeast
Bayview Southeast is located on the outskirts of the Oak Ridges Moraine, which explains why there has been minimal residential growth, in this area. One notable feature of Bayview Southeast is the headquarters of Magna International, a entity. The Magna office building, influenced by chateau architecture stands back from Wellington Street East.
Serves as a recognizable landmark in the neighbourhood. This impressive complex also includes an 18 hole golf course. As for development it is mostly limited to an exclusive areas, near Bayview Avenue and Vandorf Road while the rest of the neighbourhood comprises golf courses, farmland and densely wooded conservation areas.

Bayview Southeast Homes
In the region of Bayview Avenue, near Vandorf Sideroad and east of Bayview Avenue close to Bloomington Road you can find neighbourhoods with luxurious homes situated on prime lots. One of these communities is known as Belfontain.
It is located east of Bayview Avenue and south of Vandorf Road. Belfontain is a collection of 75 homes, each occupying estate sized lots. These custom built luxury homes are among the largest, in Aurora often surpassing 5,000 feet and many also featuring three car garages.
