History of Bayview Wellington
Bayview Wellington used to be farmland, until the 1970s. It was an area where livestock, dairy and crop farms thrived. Additionally there was a brewery and a mill situated along the East Branch of the Holland River that passes through the neighbourhood. Initially this part of Aurora belonged to the Township of Whitchurch. Became part of the Town of Aurora when the Regional Municipality of York was established in 1971.
The modern day neighbourhood started taking shape in 1989 with the opening of Lester B. Pearson Public School. This primary school is named after Canadas Prime Minister and recipient of the 1957 Nobel Peace Prize. As a child Pearson lived in Aurora. During its inauguration in 1989 Geoffrey Pearson, Mr. Pearsons son graced the event with his presence. In 1991 Bayview Wellington gained prominence with the opening of Aurora Town Hall at its heart, on 100 John West Way.

The Aurora Shopping Centre, situated at 14800 Yonge Street is home, to retailers, like No Frills, Staples, The Beer Store Bulk Barn and The CIBC Bank. Additionally it offers a selection of retailers that cater to a wide range of products and services.
