Bracondale Hill, Toronto

Bracondale Hill, in Toronto is a gem quietly nestled above the Davenport Escarpment, in Midtown. The winding streets and hilly terrain discourage heavy car traffic maintaining a sense of peace and tranquility. Despite its charm and stunning views of the downtown skyline this neighbourhood remains under the radar compared to its beauty and appeal.

History Of Bracondale Hill, Toronto

The street names in Bracondale Hill have a connection to the family of its resident Robert John Turner, who was a respected lawyer in Toronto with a keen interest in real estate.

In 1847 Turner constructed a home called Bracondale on the site where Hillcrest Park now stands. Over the years multiple generations of the Turner family resided in Bracondale house. As more families settled in the area by the 1800s a small community known as Bracondale Village began to take shape. The initial postmaster of Bracondale Village was Frank Turner, Robert Turner’s son.

With the City expanding to its borders Bracondale Village was annexed by Toronto in 1909. After annexation Frank Turner’s descendants divided the Bracondale estate. Transformed it into a subdivision named “Bracondale Hill Park,” which is today’s familiar neighbourhood. The legacy of the Turner family lives on through many of the street names displayed on white signs throughout this community.
