History Of Bridle Path, Toronto
The Bridle Path was not something Alexander Milne could have imagined when he settled on the land that’s now Edwards Gardens, in 1827. Milne ran woolen. The Bridle Path quietly existed as farmland throughout the 1800s and early 1900s. It wasn’t until the construction of the Bayview Bridge over the Don River Valley in 1929 that residential development was considered for this area.
Hubert Daniel Bull Page, a land developer based in Toronto, played a role in establishing the neighbourhood. Page envisioned The Bridle Path as a community of estate homes. In an attempt to generate interest in his subdivision Page constructed a Cape Cod Colonial style house at number 2 The Bridle Path in 1929. Early plans for this area included a system of trails. While these trails have since been paved over, their influence can still be seen in the streets and name of The Bridle Path neighbourhood.
