Clairlea stands out as a neighbourhood with a mix of middle class residents lined with green streets and affordable housing options. Residents can easily access shopping areas along Warden, Victoria Park and Eglinton Avenues. It’s a spot for commuters thanks to its public transportation network and proximity to the Don Valley Parkway. The neighbourhood’s main attractions include Warden Woods and the Taylor Massey Creek creating a ravine that runs along the edge. Warden Woods Ravine park features a maintained trail where Clairlea locals can enjoy nature in their backyard.

History Of Clairlea, Toronto

Clairlea used to be a part of a settlement called Moffat’s Corners. Moffat’s Corners is famously known for the Strangford Post Office that started operating in 1863. This post office was located where St. Clair and Victoria Park Avenues intersect today. The name “Strangford” likely came from a town in Northern Ireland as many of the residents in this area were of Irish heritage. After the closure of the Strangford Post Office in 1873 Moffat’s Corners became part of the Scarborough Junction community. In the 1900s children in this area attended Scarborough Junction school situated at Kennedy and Danforth Roads. The modern neighbourhood began to develop in the 1950s when farmland was replaced with homes. The name for this neighbourhood comes from Clairlea Public School, which opened its doors in 1951.

The Warden Power Centre, situated at the intersection of St. Clair and Warden Avenues, in the northeast is a contemporary shopping destination housing chains like Winners, Future Shop and Hy & Zels.
