History of Doncrest
Doncrest is believed to have been given its name by the town planners of Richmond Hill in the 1980s as a nod, to the Don River.

There are stores, eateries and various professional and medical establishments situated along Highway 7, in the area, around Leslie Street. This section of the road is known for its shopping malls as a multitude of independent Asian shops and restaurants.
Ed Sackfield Arena and Fitness
The Ed Sackfield Arena and Fitness Studio located at 311 Valleymede Drive has recently undergone a renovation and expansion. As part of the upgrade a new section has been added which features an NHL ice pad, a state of the art fitness studio, an aerobics room updated change rooms and even a walking track.
Adjacent, to this facility is David Hamilton Park. In times the park has been revitalized with brand play areas for children to enjoy a refreshing splash pad for hot summer days versatile courts for various sports activities newly constructed walkways for leisurely strolls or jogs in natures embrace.
Additionally comfortable seating areas have been added throughout the park along with lighting arrangements and upgrades to existing sports facilities. Next, to the park is Blackmore Tennis Club. A wonderful community based club that caters to tennis enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
