History of Downtown Stouffville
Stouffville was initially settled in 1805 by Abraham Stouffer, a Mennonite who hailed from Pennsylvania. Showing industriousness Stouffer recognized the potential. Established a saw and grist mill, on the banks of Duffins Creek.
These enterprises thrived, attracting industries and farmers to the area. By 1832 Stouffville (originally known as Stoufferville) had a population to support its own post office. The arrival of the Toronto and Nipissing railway in 1871 bolstered prosperity leading to its incorporation as a Village, in 1876.
In the 2000s Stouffville experienced an era of growth and prosperity as it emerged as one of Ontarios fastest growing communities. Since then growth has remained consistent. Undoubtedly Abraham Stouffer would take pride in these achievements.
