History of Glenway Estates
The area had its settler Dr. John Dawson, who arrived here during the 1830s. He owned a Georgian style brick manor located on the side of Yonge Street. Besides being one of the doctors, in York County Dawson also held the position of Justice of the Peace. Performed various legal duties including officiating marriages. The descendants of Dawson continued to own portions of land in this region until the 1990s.
In the 1980s developers worked on establishing what is now known as Glenway Estates neighbourhood. The development project also involved transforming the Glenway Golf and Country Club into a collection of built homes after it was sold to developers in 2009. The golf club remained operational until 2011 before undergoing redevelopment.

Glenway Estates Parks & Facilities
The Ray Twinney Recreation Complex is a community facility that offers a range of amenities and serves as a gathering spot, for the neighbourhood. It boasts two ice arenas with seating for spectators a spacious indoor pool and convenient changing room facilities.
Notably it is also the home of the Newmarket Stingrays, a competitive swim club.
