History of Jefferson Richmond Hill
During the 1840s this particular neighbourhood gained recognition, as Jefferson. The Jefferson family played a role in establishing themselves as settlers in the area having arrived from Yorkshire, England in the 1830s.
The name “Jefferson” can be traced back to William Thomas Jefferson, who set up a store on his familys land at Lot 59 Concession 1 (west of Yonge Street). In terms of education the Jefferson Common School was built in 1840.
Served as one of Richmond Hills schools. In 1882 the Jefferson Post Office was established. Among the settlers in Jefferson were Royalists seeking refuge from the French Revolution; they were collectively referred to as the Windham settlers and led by Joseph Geneviève Compte de Puisaye.
Unfortunately due to conditions this community only lasted for a years and many of the royalists returned to France. However some Windham families. Left their mark on Richmond Hill. To commemorate their settlement an Ontario Heritage plaque can be found at 12025 12045 Yonge Street of Jefferson Sideroad.

Richmond Hill Centre
Harrington Park stands as the neighbourhoods green area. It offers a walking trail along, with facilities such as a baseball diamond, a childrens playground and even a basketball court.
Edward Avenue is home, to both the National Training Rinks and the Core Gymnastics Centre. Additionally you can find the Richmond Hill Curling Club on 121 Elgin Mills Road East, which hosts leagues, bonspiels and events throughout the year.
