History Of Keswick North, Georgina
Keswick was originally called Medina (Madina) before the post office in Medina was renamed Keswick in 1836. The name Keswick has a couple of origins. One theory suggests that it was named by the First Nations Chippewas who first settled in the area calling it “Kes – wa – kick,” which translates to “a place of fishing holes.” In the 1800s European settlers, many from gentry class families in England arrived in the region. It is speculated that these settlers may have named their settlement Keswick after a market town located in England’s Lake District National Park. Both explanations for the origin of the name Keswick seem plausible and perhaps even coincidental.
