Keswick South used to be a part of the Town of North Gwillimbury and shared services with Georgina until the mid 1800s. This area, known as the Village of Jersey, holds significance. The Jersey House hotel was a resting place for merchants traveling between Georgina and Newmarket. The original Jersey Public School was established in 1870. Locals occasionally called the Maskinonge River the Jersey River. Several sawmills were active along this river in the past.
