History Of Lytton Park, Toronto
Lytton Park was initially referred to as Lot 3 Concession 1 West of Yonge Street, a 200 acre farm granted to John MacDougall, a United Empire Loyalist. The first house in the area was constructed by the Snider family at 744 Duplex Avenue in 1828. Originally designed in Regency style the house has evolved over time. Now showcases an appearance making it one of Toronto’s oldest private residences. Lytton Park boasts a history that includes a castle and a horse racing track. Glen Castle, also known as Ainsley Castle, once stood where Glen Castle Street is now located. In 1886 the Metropolitan Street Railway introduced a horse carriage service to North Toronto, which encompassed Lytton Park at that time.
