Milliken is situated at the corner of Toronto. Urbanization only began to encroach upon this area, in the 1980s. Interestingly the recent large piece of farmland in Milliken has just been transformed into development along Steeles Avenue.

History Of Milliken, Toronto
This area was first known as Milliken’s Corners, named after Norman Milliken, a United Empire Loyalist who arrived in 1807. He set up a lumbering business, a hotel and livery stables, near the intersection of Steeles Avenue and Kennedy Road.
The Milliken name is also linked to the Township of Markham located above Steeles Avenue. The Milliken Post Office, established in 1859 was located on the side of Steeles Avenue, which served as the boundary between Scarborough ( Toronto) and Markham Township.
Milliken remained a community until the 1970s when its farmland transformed into residential areas that now characterize this neighbourhood.
Lifestyle
The biggest shopping centre in this area is the Milliken Wells Shopping Plaza situated on McCowan Road at Alton Towers Circle. It has a grocery store as its attraction and is home to predominantly Chinese businesses such as food outlets, a video rental store, an herbal shop and various restaurants.
Several smaller shopping plazas can be found along Steeles Avenue and on Middlefield Road, at McNicoll Avenue. Alongside the convenience stores you’ll discover a mix of eateries, herbal shops, vegetarian stores and food markets here.

Milliken, Toronto Transit
Bus routes that run along Brimley, McCowan and Middlefield Roads offer connections to both the Toronto Transit. Go Transit station located at Scarborough City Centre. Additionally the Steeles Avenue bus serves as a link to the Yonge University Spadina subway line.
For drivers it takes five minutes to reach Highway 401 on ramps from McCowan and Brimley Roads. This highway connects travelers to the Don Valley Parkway, which provides access to downtown.
