History Of Moore Park, Toronto
Moore Park was divided into sections in 1889 to serve as a neighbourhood for the affluent residents of Toronto. John Thomas Moore, after whom the area was named, played a role in establishing the Belt Line Railway, which was Toronto’s commuter train service. He personally supervised the construction of Moore Parks railway station as part of his vision for the neighbourhood. Despite investing in the Belt Line with hopes of attracting buyers to Moore Park economic challenges arose when Toronto faced a Depression shortly after the railways launch leading to its bankruptcy.
This financial setback delayed the construction of homes in Moore Park until the 1900s. It wasn’t until the 1930s that Moore Park reached development status.
