History of Queensville East Gwillimbury
In the 1800s the town of Queensville was originally known as Hackett’s Corners, named after William Hackett, who ran a store in this central community located at Queensville Sideroad and Leslie Street initially referred to as Queen Street. Over time Queensville evolved into a quaint settlement, with establishments like a post office, church, mills complex and a prominent hotel. The communitys name was officially changed to Queensville in 1843 as a tribute to Queen Victoria.
Throughout the years Queensville has maintained its charm. Presently an exciting new chapter is unfolding in the towns history. Designated as a growth area Queensville is undergoing residential and commercial expansion that is projected to boost its population from less than 1,000 to 30,000 residents. These upcoming years will signify a period of growth, for this quiet residential area.
