History of Rouge Woods
Richmond Hill has a history that dates back, to the 1800s when it was mainly an agricultural area. As Toronto and its surrounding regions underwent urbanization and population growth Richmond Hill transformed into a community.
In decades Rouge Woods has experienced development and an increase in population. This neighbourhood gets its name from the Rouge River. Is known for its mix of residential homes, parks and community amenities. Residents of Rouge Woods can enjoy the spaces for leisure and recreation offered by the Rouge Woods Conservation Area along the banks of the river.
The appeal of this neighbourhood within the Greater Toronto Area is further enhanced by developments, schools and community facilities. It’s worth noting that there may have been changes or updates in the community since my information update in January 2022. Therefore it would be wise to consult sources for up to date information on Rouge Woods, in Richmond Hill.
Lifestyle
In this neighbourhood you’ll find plenty of shopping choices along the outskirts. To start with there’s Richmond Hill Smart Centres situated at the intersection of Bayview Avenue and Major Mackenzie Drive East, in the corner. Other shopping options include the Shoppes of Heritage Hollow, on Elgin Mills Road East and Leslie Centre which’s an outdoor plaza located at 1390 Major Mackenzie Dr E.
Rouge Woods Community Centre
The Rouge Woods Community Centre can be found at 110 Shirley Drive. It offers a gymnasium well as community meeting rooms. In addition there is an area, at the back of the centre which includes a soccer field, four tennis courts and a basketball court.
Transit
In Rouge Woods you’ll find a total of 114 transit stops. Among them is the convenient Richmond Hill GO rail station. Within this community the majority of residents rely on their vehicles to commute, with many traveling to neighbouring cities for work or other purposes.

Rouge Woods offers a range of homes including detached houses and townhomes each, with its unique size and style. These homes were constructed during the 1990s and early 2000s. Most of them feature brick exteriors. Come with either an double car garage. Additionally there are some areas, in the part of this neighbourhood that are currently being transformed into high density townhome enclaves as part of development projects.
