History of Summerhill Estates
Since 1880 the known landmark, in this neighborhood has been the Mulock Farm, located on the prominent northwest corner of Yonge and Mulock Streets. Sir William Mulock established this farm in 1880 having had a career as Canadas Postmaster General, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ontario and a Liberal Member of Parliament representing the House of Commons from 1882 to 1905. During his time in office he became Canadas Minister of Labour.
At its peak Mulock Farm covered a 400 acres of land. It gained recognition for being a model farm with its flowers, apple orchards, esteemed cattle and adorable Shetland ponies. In his philanthropic efforts Mulock set aside a portion of the farm for students from the Ontario College of Agriculture to partake in cutting edge advancements.
Over the years sections of Mulock Farm were gradually divided due to real estate development gradually surrounding it. However the original estate home remains preserved on a property spanning 11.6 acres. The estate has been meticulously. Cherished by six generations of the Mulock family.
In 2018 after years, in their possession the Mulock family made the decision to sell Mulock Farm to Newmarket Town for a sum amounting to $24 million.
In the future all the people living in Newmarket will have the opportunity to relish in the transformation of Mulock Farm, into a community park and green area. William Mulock was truly a man who valued community and the well being of all. It would undoubtedly bring him joy to see that his cherished farm and estate have endured over the years and are now poised to become a part of our community.

Summerhill Estates can be found in the part of Newmarket, bordered by Yonge Street to the east and Bathurst Street to the west. If you head down Mulock Drive you’ll come across stone entranceway markers that bear the name Summerhill. Another set of markers can be found at Doubletree Lane and Sawmill Valley Drive.

Whipper Watson Park, situated near Clearmeadow Boulevard is a park nestled in a forest like environment. Summerhill Estates Homes
The area known as Summerhill located north of Mulock Drive and its counterpart, Summerhill South are easily identifiable, by their stone entranceways along Mulock Drive. Most of the homes in this neighbourhood were constructed during the 2000s. Consist of a combination of detached and semi detached houses as well as townhomes.
