History Of Wanless Park , Toronto
In 1912 Toronto Suburbs Ltd., led by George Kappele and D.F. Crowagen officially planned the subdivision of the Waverley farm located at Mount Pleasant Road and Lawrence Avenue. This new development was named Waverley Park.
Similar to Toronto neighbourhoods of that time the construction of homes in Waverley Park faced delays due to the impacts of both the First World War and the Great Depression. By 1931 the City of Toronto took over properties in the heart of Waverley Park to establish a park, which was later named Wanless Park. Over time the entire community embraced this name.
The names Wanless Park, Wanless Road, Wanless Avenue and Wanless Crescent all pay tribute to John Wanless, an alderman and educator, from Toronto.
Lifestyle
Renowned for its following at the Beach location and the constant queue outside this famous burger spot has now opened a second branch for us Uptowners and we are thrilled! The burgers taste just as amazing at their spacious North location. We particularly enjoy the veggie burger, a deep fried mushroom filled with gooey cheese. Moreover at this branch they are serving up malts and shakes – so make sure to leave some room!
There’s usually a line at the shop during lunch, dinner and around 2 am but don’t be discouraged by it. The wait goes by quickly. Is definitely worth it.
The Abbot Pub located at 3367 Yonge Street is a lit pub serving up all the classic dishes and you’ll be pleasantly surprised when your meal surpasses expectations. They prepare everything from scratch using the ingredients adding a touch of freshness to pub cuisine. Their “Ploughmans Lunch,” featuring cheddar cheese, house pate, pickles and a boiled egg is not only delicious but also a delightful departure from the ordinary. Their shepherd’s pie might rival Moms recipe. It’s the kind of spot that every neighbourhood should have!
