History of Wismer Commons Markham
The Wismer Commons, named after the Wismer family played a role, in the development of Markham. David Wismer, the head of the family had roots. Initially migrated to Pennsylvania before eventually settling in Markham Township in 1806. Known for their generosity the Wismer family generously donated portions of their land holdings to community organizations aiming to improve the well being of the entire community.
